Lieutenant Dan was right. You call this a storm?

I can't decide what was more disappointing yesterday. The result of the Bafana Bafana game (I'm sure I've explained this already, but in case you're new, it's the name for the South African team, and it's way more fun to say than "the South African team"), or...our view from Table Mountain.

The mountain is famous for its cloud "tablecloth" that hangs over it for an unpredictable amount of time each day. Some days it burns off in the morning, but on days like yesterday, it doesn't. But it was the only day we could go, so we headed up on a cable car to the peak over 1,000 meters above.

While we couldn't see down below, the clouds had parted above us, so it was actually sunny. The mountain extraordinarily flat, so I was all about hiking around. But since I'm not good at, say, not getting lost, we took some of the easier trails. Highlights included shouting really inane things over the side of a mountain and hearing their ridiculousness echoed back to us. ("Echooo!..."Can you hear me!"..."They tried to make me go back to rehab, but I said no, noooo, NOOOOOOOOOOO!")

Other thing to be disappointed by: not getting to see Robben Island! The place where Mandela was imprisoned can only be reached by boat, and the day we reserved 4 months ago was canceled because of stormy conditions. So we added it to our ever-growing list, entitled "Next Time We're In South Africa." We drowned our frustration in soccer, as we joined a few thousand fans near the Cape Town waterfront to watch some games. There's always something to do when there are 3 international frenzies per day.
